Overactive Thyroid Symptoms you should know about

Overactive Thyroid Symptoms – Identifying a Hyperactive Thyroid

Identifying overactive thyroid symptoms is the first step to see if you are suffering Hyperthyroidism. Many of the symptoms can appear to be related to stress. Some of the most common symptoms are insomnia, heart palpitations  and tremors in the hands. Hyperthyroidism symptoms indicate that your thyroid is producing too much of a specific
hormone, called “Thyroxine”. When this occurs, it results in acceleration in the
body’s metabolism and your body really goes into overdrive.

To many, this may seem like an ideal situation as so many
women suffer from low metabolism. Unfortunately, it could result in numerous
health complications. Examples of these issues include drastic drops in weight,
high levels of irritability, irregularities with the heartbeat, unexplained
sweating and major panic attacks.

The most common overactive thyroid symptoms:

  • Drastic and unexplained weight loss.
  • Rapid or irregular heartbeat.
  • Psychological complications such as a high level of nervousness, mood
swings, irritability and anxiety may be experienced.
  • An unusual increased
    appetite.
  • Menstrual cycle changes and fluctuations.
  • Increased sensitivity to warm temperatures.
  • Difficulty falling asleep and staying
asleep for long periods of time. Waking up constantly throughout the night and
too early is not at all uncommon.
  • Muscles may feel
    extremely tired and painful.
  • Excessive sweating in normal temperatures at unusual times – even if
the environmental temperature is considered to be ideal.
  • Frequent loose bowel movements.
  • Tremors in the hands and fingers.

In addition to the previously mentioned overactive thyroid
symptoms, you may also notice swelling in your neck. This condition is
referred to as a “Goiter”.

Individuals that are a bit older often show only a few – if any – symptoms
associated with overactive thyroid. This is often due to the fact that they take
certain medications that have been known to actively mask the
symptoms outlined above. One type of medication that masks
symptoms is called “Beta Blockers”. This medication istypically used to control and lower blood pressure.

If you experience any of the symptoms
outlined above, you should make an appointment with your
doctor immediately. This will assist in not only eliminating the symptoms, but
treating it so that you avoid potentially devastating health complications, such
as the onset of Graves Ophthalmopathy.
