Hypothyroidism Symptoms – Do you have a Thyroid problem?

Hypothyroidism Symptoms and Signs

The severity of hypothyroidism symptoms vary from person to person. Many
patients begin feeling mild symptoms for years and attribute the
symptoms to getting older or feeling run down. Symptoms usually start
out mild and progress slowly year after year increasing in intensity as
the disease progresses.

Many of us do not even realize we are
hypothyroid until the symptoms of hypothyroidism become unbearable or
interfere with our daily activities.

Some of the symptoms of Hypothyroidism are:

  • cold hands and feet
  • feeling tired all the time
  • low body temperature
  • metabolism problems
  • low blood pressure
  • slow pulse
  • hair loss in women
  • inability to lose weight
  • unexplained weight gain
  • eyebrow hair loss (usually the outer edge of each brow)
  • constipation
  • dry itchy skin
  • brain fog
  • memory trouble
  • headaches
  • depression/mood swings
  • hoarse voice
  • enlarged thyroid gland or a feeling of tightness or fullness in the throat
  • coarse dry hair
  • dry nails
  • dry skin
  • fertility problems or difficulty becoming pregnant
  • no or low sex drive
  • vertigo
  • dry eyes
  • tendency to get sick easily

Just like each one of us is unique, not everyone has the same low
thyroid symptoms. You may even be aware of certain symptoms over others. Some symptoms tend to linger in the background such
as low blood pressure.

I had very low blood pressure for years, actually for as long as I could remember. I never realized it was a symptom……..

For
years I had many of the symptoms above and thought nothing of them. I
truly thought they were completeley unrelated. Not until I started doing
intensive research did I realize that these were all tell tale signs of
Hypothyroidism.

My story was unfolding right before my dry eyes every day and I had no idea!

Many of the symptoms above you may not find in brochures or lists that describe
hypothyroidism. Your doctor may not even consider many of symptoms above as signs of
hypothyroidism.

This symptoms list comes from patients that have
been diagnosed as being Hypothyroid. These are real symptoms and many
of us experience them everyday. These patients have lived with many of
these hypothyroidism symptoms listed above and know now that when
treated properly some symptoms can disappear or are at the least be
diminished.

When to see your Doctor

If the list above looks all too familiar and you have a few or even many
of the above mentioned hypothyroidism symptoms, you should make an
appointment to see your doctor.

Take some time first however to make a
list of the symptoms that you are having.

We all go the doctor with good
intentions of telling them all of our symptoms and yet once we get
there we forget to mention half of things we wanted to talk about.

Giving
your doctor a list that you have compiled ensures that you are painting
an accurate picture of your health. If your doctor brushes you off
(which some of them will do) find a new doctor who will listen to your symptoms with an open mind.

So many women have a hard time getting diagnosed. This was my first and
second experience until the third doctor I found diagnosed and treated
me. I had hypothyroidism symptoms and hyperthyroidism symptoms for years which is a
indication of
Hashimotos Disease.

If you have been diagnosed as being Hypothyroid……. CONGRATULATIONS!!

This may seem like a strange comment but now that you have your diagnosis you can focus on the wellness of your body and your
thyroid gland.

How to Treat Hypothyroidism

Medications used for hypothyroidism treatment are in two categories
known as natural thyroid medication and synthetic thyroid medication. Some of the natural thyroid medications are known by the following names: Armour, Nature Throid and Westhroid. Some of the natural thyroid medications are known by the following names: Armour, Nature Throid and Westhroid

All of the above mentioned medications are by prescription only and must
be prescribed by a doctor. Discuss with your doctor whether natural or
synthetic thyroid medication is best for you.

Hypothyroidism symptoms can be baffling and frustrating.
Keep your running list of symptoms updated and ready to go for your
doctors appointment.

Be your own advocate and ask questions.

Having a
good relationship with your doctor is key and if you find your doctor
isn’t on the same page as you, find a new doctor or at least get a
second opinion. Being in charge of your health is the first step in
living a healthy life with or without Hypothyroidism symptoms.
